With the end of the season rapidly approaching, the destination of the Daily Mail Trophy starts to become an increasingly debated topic.
Mathematically five sides can still win the competition, the top six in the table (see below) bar Kirkham Grammar School, leaving Sedbergh, Wellington College, Cranleigh, Clifton College, and Epsom College in contention.
Cranleigh, Clifton College, and Epsom College all have two games to play, each of them plays the first of those this weekend, while Sedbergh and Wellington have just one each, Sedbergh playing Millfield on Wednesday, Wellington playing Tonbridge next weekend.
Epsom and Clifton must have perfect results in their two games and hope that both Sedbergh and Wellington College slip up in theirs, while also hoping that Cranleigh avoid a perfect two games.
Cranleigh too need Sedbergh to slip up against Millfield, and could realistically do with Wellington College slipping up too. Should Wellington and Cranleigh earn maximum points from their remaining games they would be level.
In reality though the ball is in Sedbergh’s court. Their outstanding 20-10 victory over Wellington College in midweek (you can read that report here, Sedbergh 20-10 Wellington College) saw them just above Wellington and now means that any sort of victory over Millfield on Wednesday will seal them the title.
