Defining weekend of the schoolboy season

BECOME A PATRON

This weekend is one of the most competitive weekends on the calendar as no fewer the 18 Fifteen Rugby featured schools are competing against each other.

Picking out highlights from these fixtures is an almost impossible task, with each match full of history, emotion and importance for both sides. This is the elite of school rugby taking each other on head to head.

One fixture of particular interest though is Wellington v Harrow. Both have been in fine form this season, with Harrow unbeaten in their 3 games so far, while Wellington have only won two out of four. The stats though for Wellington lie, for their record includes a draw which the outstanding side of last year, and possibly the outstanding side of this, Dulwich College.

While they did suffer a defeat, it was to Marlborough College, the form side of the opening month of the season and very much the surprise package.

It ought to be another tight game, which will probably suit Wellington better as they have been used to close matches all season, whilst Harrow have been able to win by greater margins. Though a tight 24-17 victory over Epsom College probably represents their best and closest game of the season.

Victory for either side is likely to set the up for one of their most successful seasons on record, while a defeat could halt the momentum that both sides have done so much to create.

Overall though this is set to be a bumper weekend, and one which is likely to define the seasons of many of these sides. Teams like Tonbridge, Millfield and Sedbergh have a chance to prove their talent and reinvigorate their seasons after an opening month of much promise but mixed results.

On the other hand, the likes of Uppingham, Ampleforth and St Edward’s are desperately in need of victories after poor starts to their seasons. A strong couple of weekends ahead of half term could completely alter the course of each side’s season.

One thing is for certain though; this weekend will be seen as a defining one for many of these elite schoolboy sides.
