Top weekend of School Rugby beckons as we say farewell to some of the best

After a quite brilliant midweek, featuring two of the performances of the season from Sherborne and Hampton to reach the Daily Mail Cup quarter finals, attention now turns to the weekend, where the ought to be plenty of action rival even that of yesterday.

Fresh from Daily Mail Cup action last night, Hampton and Whitgift are back in action against John Fisher and St Benedicts, in games that will be every bit as tough as their Daily Mail encounter.

Warwick too are in action again after knocking out Stamford, they face Nottingham High School in a match that they ought to win provided there is no hangover from yesterday.

RGS High Wycombe and King’s Macclesfield both have an opportunity to get in some match practice ahead of their Daily Mail encounters next week. RGS face Tiffin while King’s are up against Crosby’s Merchant Taylors School.

Brighton v Campion and RGS Lancaster v RGS Newcastle particularly catch this writers eye, while fresh from a thrilling 26 all draw with King’s Macclesfield, Kirkham Grammar’s game against Hutton Grammar is also well worth a watch.

This week also sees us say goodbye until the sevens season to three of the most successful schools of the last five months, Millfield, Marlborough and Stamford.

All three have been superb this season, with Marlborough claiming our Team of the Term award last term, Millfield winning the St Joseph’s Festival and our October Team of the Month, while Stamford were unbeaten at home all season.

It will be worth following the careers of these players very closely indeed; a few will become household names.
