Big weekend of School Rugby as XV’s and VII’s run hand in hand

Whilst many schoolboy rugby players up and down the country will be taking part in the Under 18 Premiership and in the ISRFC Lambs fixture, plenty will also be taking part in a big weekend of school fixtures.

There are some key fixtures this weekend, with John Fisher against RGS High Wycombe topping the bill. Both of these sides have been in good form this season, with Fisher reaching the final of the St Joseph’s Festival in October while RGS High Wycombe were unlucky to be knocked out in the Daily Mail Cup quarter finals a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking of the Daily Mail Cup, two of the semi finalists are in action. Hampton, who beat RGS’ conquerors Truro School 20-3 to reach the semi’s, face a tough trip to Campion, while Warwick, who progressed on Wednesday thanks to the away ruling after a 10-10 draw with Wilmslow High, welcome bitter rivals Solihull to town.

The King’s School, Macclesfield have an early chance to make up for their 3-0 loss to Northampton School for Boys on Wednesday, a result which saw them knocked out of the Daily Mail Cup and lose their unbeaten record this season. They face St Ambrose College in what should be a good match for the spectators.

London Oratory face St Olave’s Grammar in a return to the fifteen-a-side game following their semi final performance at the Shiplake Sevens last weekend.

The start of the sevens season continues again this weekend as the Portsmouth Grammar School VII’s takes centre stage on Sunday. A number of big names on the sevens circuit are spread across the four groups as each side looks to prepare for what is the main event of the sevens season, The Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens competition.
