This weekend is one of the most exciting on the School Sevens calendar, with two top quality sevens tournaments taking place on Sunday.
Â
Thirty-two teams will gather at Hereford Cathedral School for the Marches 7’s, whilst a further twenty sides will be at Bryanston School for the Bryanston Sevens.
Â
The Marches 7’s provides last weekend’s Christ College 7’s winners, King’s Worcester, with another opportunity to add to their trophy cabinet. They are drawn with Cheltenham College, KES Bath and Wycliffe in Pool B.
Â
The 2012 winners of the Marches 7’s, Coleg Sir Gar, are drawn in Pool F alongside the surprise package of the Christ College 7’s, Monmouth. Sir Gar’s opponents in the 2012 final were Millfield, they are drawn in Pool C with Plymouth College, Rydal, and Glantaf for company.
Â
The hosts are in Pool A, where Solihull will go down as favourites, while as hosts Hereford have entered a second team which has been named in Pool G alongside RGS Worcester, Bro Morgannwg, and group favourites (despite fielding their 2nd VII), Filton College.
Â
Perhaps the most competitive group though will be Pool D which features Colston’s, Hartpury College, Christ College finalists Llandovery, and Malvern College, all top quality sides who will fancy their chances.
Â
Over in Bryanston the level of competition is equally high, Filton have sent their 1st VII to Bryanston and they will be in Group A, where they will be favourites, alongside Millfield’s 2nd VII, Abingdon, Taunton and Wellington School.
Â
Wellington School’s namesake’s, Wellington College, will be favourites in Pool B, they are joined by Daily Mail Cup quarter finalists, Truro School, as well as Portsmouth Grammar School, Canford and St Edward’s, Cheltenham.
Â
Bryanston’s 1st VII are in a tough group, Pool C includes Bicton College, Marlborough College, Skinners’ and King’s College Taunton, in what will surely be one of the most competitive groups.
Â
Perhaps the most competitive of all though will be Pool D. It features two of the stars of the Daily Mail Cup this year, Sherborne and Hamtpon, as well as Brighton College, Clifton College and Bryanston’s 2nd VII.
