Bedford took their fifteen-a-side form into the seven-a-side format of the game, winning the Oakham Sevens with a 20-14 victory over St Joseph’s. Uppingham School took the plate after they dispatched the Perse 24-19.

St Joseph’s came into the tournament as favourites, with Oakham expected to cause a bit of mayhem on their own turf. However it was Bedford who stole the show with some eye catching performances, particularly their 43-12 semi final win, on their way to lifting the trophy.

In a small tournament, every team was guaranteed progress to a knockout format of some description, even if they failed to win a game in the pool stages, despite this though, neither of the bottom finishers progressed beyond the Plate semi’s, with Uppingham eventually lifting the trophy.

There was also an Under 16 tournament running, where the hosts, Oakham, reached the final only to lose 10-5 to Denstone College. Bedford will have kept their coaches happy though, they won the Plate tournament 14-5 against Warwick to ensure that they came home with a trophy from each tournament.
