Colston’s Sevens set to be competitive

After reaching the Plate final of the Marches 7’s last weekend, Colston’s are hosting the IKON School Sevens tournament this weekend, with fifteen sides invited to the home of the South West schoolboy rugby greats.

There will be a Cup, Plate, Shield and Bowl tournament, but with just three groups the format will be slightly complicated.

The Cup competition though will compromise the three group winners plus the best second placed side.

The Groups are anything but predictable though, Group A looks most likely to be won by Truro School whose back play in recent weeks has been very exciting, but any one of Kingswood, Bishop’s Wordsworth, Sir Thomas Rich’s or Downside will feel that they have just as good a chance.

Group B looks a little more certain with Millfield the likely winners, however if they field a weakened side, as is possible, then Bristol Grammar School and Bromsgrove will both feel that they are in with a shout of topping the pool.

Group C, like Group A, is wide open. Hosts Colston’s are probably just the favourites but the likes of Prior Park and Clifton pose a real threat, whilst KES Bath and Glantaf are not to be sniffed at either.
