England change four of Argentina

England have made four changes to the side that defeated Australia last weekend for their match against Argentina.

The entire front row is changed, while Ben Foden comes in on the wing. Alex Goode, Alex Corbisiero, and Geoff Parling are all on the bench after missing out last week.

With Mako Vunipola ruled out through injury, Joe Marler gets a start after a fine substitute appearance last weekend. Alex Corbisiero, who is fit again after his knee problems, takes his place on the bench.

At hooker Dylan Hartley replaces Tom Youngs, who has been busy with the birth of his first child this week. It was a change that was likely to happen anyway though as a measure to sure up the England lineout, which faltered slightly against Australia.

Dan Cole has to make do with a place on the bench, the prop has started 38 of the last 41 England Tests but David Wilson’s impressive form for Bath and his excellent performances against Argentina in the summer see him earn a starting place.

The big talking point is the wing though. Christian Wade had been strongly tipped for a start, and it had been widely rumoured that it would be for Chris Ashton. However both he and Marland Yarde failed late fitness tests, on a hamstring tweak for Wade and a hip problem for Yarde, leaving Ashton as the only available recognised winger in the squad.

As such, he retains his place on the right wing, while Ben Foden is promoted from the bench onto the left wing, with Mike Brown retaining his place at full back.

Elsewhere the backline remains unchanged, Lee Dickson and Owen Farrell are the half backs, despite pressure on Dickson from both Ben Youngs and Danny Care, while Billy Twelvetrees retains his spot in the centres alongside Joel Tomkins after a difficult day on Saturday.

Billy Vunipola stays at number eight with Chris Robshaw and Tom Wood either side of him. Ahead of them both Joe Launchbury and Courtney Lawes start despite the return to fitness of Geoff Parling, who must make do with a place on the bench.

He is one of five British and Irish Lions on the bench, Dan Cole, Tom Youngs, Alex Corbisiero, and Ben Youngs are the others. Also on the bench are Ben Morgan, Toby Flood, and Alex Goode, following Ben Foden’s elevation to the starting XV.
