BECOME A PATRON

The fourth round of the U18 NatWest Schools Cup begins in earnest this week.

Therefore with the tournament now looking reasonably settled we decided it was time to bring you a quick look at all of the fourth round fixtures and our predictions for them, as well as showing you who each could end up playing as we move through to Rounds, 5, 6, and 7.

North A

Key 4th Round Fixtures -  Yarm v Barnard Castle & Stockport Grammar v King’s Macclesfield.

Yarm won the Vase last year, while Barnard Castle are one of the most successful teams in Schools Cup history, despite having never won the tournament.

Stockport Grammar and King’s Macclesfield have both been in cracking form and that could create a spectacular match.

Predicted Quarter Finalist – Durham

North B

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Ellesmere College v Manchester Grammar School and Mount St Mary’s v QEGS Wakefield.

Both of these fixtures could go either way. Ellesmere and Manchester Grammar will almost certainly be playing for a monster tie against Woodhouse Grove, while the winner of Mount St Mary’s v QEGS has a real shot at going a long way into this competition.

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Bishop’s Stortford College v Bishop’s Stortford High School and Richard Hale v Saffron Walden.

This section of the draw has kept all of the big guns apart quite nicely and it has given Richard Hale and Saffron Walden a great chance of going very deep into the tournament if they can win their fourth round tie.

On the other side of the draw the Bishop’s Stortford derby should be a classic cup encounter, full of passion.

Note that Stamford will almost certainly be at home until the redraw should they win their 4th round tie.

Predicted Quarter Finalist – Stamford (Warwick & Solihull will push, but hard to see Stamford losing that home record).

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Old Swinford Hospital v RGS Worcester and Northampton School for Boys v The Perse

OSH and RGS Worcester’s local battle should be a keenly fought affair, OSH reached the final two years ago but have slumped a little, while RGS have great big game mentality this year after beating King’s Worcester in the Modus Cup.

Northampton School for Boy’s run to the final last year was thrilling to watch, The Perse will be their first big test of the Cup this year and it will be important for them to make a statement with a probable fixture against Oakham next up.

Predicted Quarter Finalist – Denstone

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Whitgift v John Fisher and Hampton v KCS Wimbledon

What a loaded draw this is! The Croydon derby will be yet another Cup classic between these two, particularly in light of their earlier game this season, who 25-24 by Whitgift after a thrilling Fisher comeback.

Hampton v KCS will be spectacular too, both have the potential to get right into the heart of the tournament after the re draw but they must first make it out of this tough section.

Predicted Quarter Finalists – Hampton (Look out for St Jo’s in the other half though)

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Eltham v Dulwich and Harrow v Haileybury

Dulwich and Harrow should win these two but their oppositions are no mugs. Dulwich are seeking a third title in a row so any fixture involving them is always worth watching, like all champions, teams tend to try to raise them elvel against them.

Predicted Quarter Finalists – Dulwich College

South West A

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Plymouth College v Exeter School and Torquay High School for Boys v Truro.

These should both be pretty even games and when the winners meet in the 5th it should remain close, giving a likely 6th round tie against Millfield in the 6th round, a fixture that any side will enjoy. With Millfield likely to be playing development sides though, it also might represent a chance for a surprise result.

Predicted Quarter Finalist – Stowe (Assuming Millfield Development sides)

Key 4th Round Fixtures – Dean Close v Sir Thomas Rich’s and Blundell’s v King’s Taunton.

Like so many other sections, two very tight looking games. The winner of Dean Close v Sir Thomas Rich’s will face the most successful team in the competition’s history in the 5th round, Colston’s.

The winner of Blundell’s v King’s will face either Bicton or Gillingham and could go a long way.
