Durham and Stowe today added their names to the four teams that moved into the last sixteen of the U18 NatWest Cup yesterday, joining the four sides that have already confirmed their place in the final regional round of the competition.
Durham sealed their spot with a 17-3 victory over Barnard Castle, while Stowe performed brilliantly in front of a passionate crowd to beat Sherborne 21-7. Durham will now play Stonyhurst in a brilliant looking last 16 fixture, while Stowe are yet to discover their opponent.
Once the last 16 ties, or regional finals, have been played the remaining eight teams will be re drawn for the quarter finals.
Stamford and Warwick both sealed their spot in the final game in Midlands A with strong wins. Stamford continued their outstanding unbeaten home run with a 34-6 victory over Bedford Modern, while Warwick beat Bloxham 46-7. On the Midlands B side of the draw The Perse sealed their last 16 spot with a 21-12 victory over Norwich, and are now surely the favourites for the quarter final spot.
Bicton College thrillingly set up a last 16 tie against RGS High Wycombe in South West B after they beat Sir Thomas Rich’s 19-15 courtesy of a thrilling try in the last play – a moment that will live long in Cup memory. RGS progressed yesterday after they beat Marlborough 15-11 in one of the most tense games of the NatWest Cup this year.
Campion’s brilliant Cup run continues as they beat Dartford Grammar School 13-7, setting up a London & South East A final against either Whitgift or Hampton, one of the most challenging ties of the competition but one that with this much confidence flowing through them, Campion will relish.
Already through are Stonyhurst, in North A, and Trinity in London & South East A after they both won their 6th round ties last week.
