Culford flying high as they win Reed’s 7s

Culford School avenged a group stage defeat to Felsted to come back and win the 2014 Reed’s 7s.

Revenge was all the more sweet because it was Felsted whom they eventually beat in the final, winning 36-24 in a thrilling game of rugby.

Things had been a bit tricky for the organisers as the tournament first had to be rearranged due to poor weather conditions earlier in the season, and was then further disrupted as two schools pulled out, reducing the tournament to two groups of three.

It was to prove of no real detriment to the tournament though, the group stages were highly competitive, as shown by the fact that neither group winner lifted the trophy in the end.

Reed’s topped Group A but lost to Felsted, who topped Group B, in the semi finals. Felsted of course went on to lose in the final to Culford.

For Culford the semi finals went by without too much of a hitch, beating Pangbourne 24-12 before going on to lift the trophy. With some of their boys in action for the Independent School Lambs U18s this week it is certainly a good spell for the Bury St Edmunds’ based side.

Colfe’s picked up the Plate in very conclusive fashion, beating Wisbech Grammar School 53-14.
