The draw for the 2014 Cheshire 7s has been made, the tournament take place tomorrow, Wednesday 11th March, and features the top sides in the area.
Wirral Grammar School get back on the horse quickly after their heartbreaking U18 NatWest Vase semi final defeat to Exeter College on Sunday. Their big rivals in Group A will be Wilmslow High School, while Sandbach will also pose a big threat.
King’s School, Chester and St Ambrose College’s 2nd VII make up the rest of Group A. The tournament has a slightly unusual make up as it is made up of three groups of five. This means that the top three side plus the best second place side will form the Cup semi finals, while the remaining two 2nd placed sides plus the best two 3rd placed sides in the groups will form the Plate semi finals.
U18 NatWest Cup quarter finalists Lymm High School are in Group B, which looks to be the toughest of the lot.
Joining them are some of the heavyweights of the region, including King’s Macclesfield, Stockport Grammar School, and Calday Grange Grammar, while Welsh side Rydal Penrhos will also prove tricky to beat.
In Group C St Ambrose look likely to be the favourites, and with a second side in the tournament they certainly have depth. Altrincham Grammar and Birkenhead are no fools though, while Cheadle Hulme and St Anslem’s could cause problems.
