Blundell’s School won Sunday’s Bryanston 7s, beating the hosts in the final after a thrilling day’s play.

It bodes well for both schools ahead of next weekend’s Rosslyn Park National School 7s, a tournament that both will be feeling much more confident about.

They reached the final following a couple of outstanding semi final results, with Bryanston beating Canford 33-0 and Blundell’s beating a dangerous Portsmouth Grammar School side 33-19.

That set things up for a classic finale, with the hosts looking for the chance to lift their own trophy, however Blundell’s were to take it, 19-14.

In truth it was deserved, Blundell’s had also beating Abingdon, who finished second to Bryanston in Group A, 41-12 in the quarter final – a brilliant result. They had also come from what was later proved to be the most competitive group in the competition.

Hampton, who finished second to Blundell’s in Group C, came close against Bryanston in the quarter final, just losing 14-10, while the Plate final was contested by the sides who finished third and fourth in that group – Bristol Grammar School and Taunton, win Bristol Grammar winning 26-12, reflecting their group table position.

It showed what a tough group it was to top though, making Blundell’s achievement all the more impressive.

With Rosslyn Park just over a week away, it is a good time to be coming into form.
