Round three of the AASE league takes place tomorrow, with all four of the remaining unbeaten teams facing away trips.
In the North league, having thumped Gosforth Academy 83-5 last week, Hartpury College must now travel North to Myerscough College. It will likely be a far trickier assignment, Myerscough only lost out by a point away at Oaklands College last week, though they did only beat Gosforth by six points on the opening weekend relative to Hartpury’s 78 point margin.
Oaklands meanwhile must travel West to Worcester 6th form College. Oaklands are unbeaten so far having seen off Myerscough as described above and overseeing a comfortable victory over Moulton College in round 1.
Worcester started the season badly, losing 40-0 to Hartpury, however last week a tight 36-32 away win over Moulton College will have buoyed their confidence ahead of this one.
Rounding off the North section this week is a game between the only two winless sides in the section, Moulton College and Gosforth Academy. Given Gosforth’s collapse against Hartpury last week it will be a highly impressive feat if they can pick themselves up for this one, particularly as Moulton, despite being winless, have looked competitive.
In the South there are some excellent fixtures. St Paul’s Catholic College currently top the table, however they face a very tricky away tie against new boys Bicton College. Bicton came into the league with a bang, beating Ivybridge 40-15, however last week they lost against a Truro College side who are looking pretty handy this year. St Paul’s meanwhile have clocked up victories against both Henley College and Truro.
SGS Filton College are the other unbeaten side in the section, they travel to Ivybridge and will be confident of victory. Ivybridge have shipped forty points each to St Paul’s and Bicton so far, while Filton beat Henley 41-3 last week and held off the excellent Truro 15-5 on the opening week.
The final game of the round sees Truro College visit Henley College. As described above, Truro are looking highly competitive this year, while Henley have lost both of their games and appear to be struggling for form a little. Nevertheless, the trip from Truro is a long one, and could affect the away side.
