AASE Preview – Filton & St Paul’s go head to head

BECOME A PATRON

Last week the big talking point in the AASE League was Ivybridge’s shock defeat of SGS Filton.

This week it would seem that Filton again are going to top the billing when it comes to headlines as they go head to head with the unbeaten St Paul’s Catholic College side.

These are, on early season form at least, the two outstanding sides in the South division so tomorrow’s clash will be fascinating. St Paul’s might be favourites having remained unbeaten, however Filton know they are a good side and with home advantage they will have every confidence.

Vying with Filton for second spot are Truro College, who themselves look mighty impressive. They face Filton’s vanquishers, Ivybridge, and will be feeling good ahead of that one after a 29-0 away win over Henley last time out. Ivybridge will be confident too though so it ought to be fascinating.

Rounding of the southern fixtures are new boys Bicton College who make the trip up the M4 to Henley College, who currently sit bottom of the table. Bicton have impressed early on despite having just one win to their name and will be desperate to add another to justify that praise.

Over in North it already almost seems to be breaking into a two horse race between Oaklands and Hartpury, though the other four sides will have plenty to say about that. Hartpury must travel to Moulton, who are a game behind after being unable to field a front row last week, leaving their game with Gosforth postponed.

Gosforth must make the trip to Oaklands, meaning that the bottom two must play the top two in what will be two tough fixtures. Oaklands have had to fight for their victories though, so that will leave the door ajar for Gosforth.

The tie of the round though will be between Myerscough and Worcester 6th form College, who sit fourth and third respectively, with only a bonus point separating them. Last week Worcester came close against Oaklands, while Myerscough put up by far and away the best resistance to Hartpury of anyone this season, it should be a top game.
