Round 8 of the AASE league sees a crucial match in the Southern Conference dominate the pre round talk.
St Paul’s host Filton in a battle between second and third in the table, with both sides hunting down Truro at the top. With both sides playing Truro over the course of rounds 9 and 10, this game will be crucial ahead of that run in.
Filton beat St Paul’s 17-12 the last time they met but St Paul’s sit above them despite that and their equal win/loss records due to their impressive accumulation of bonus points. It leaves St Paul’s in second on 27 points, one behind Truro, with Filton a further four behind on 23.
Victory tomorrow would give the winner an enormous opportunity to win the title, knowing that victory in their game against Truro would secure top spot afterwards. With this run in, anything can happen and it is sure to be an exciting last three rounds at the top of the Southern Conference.
Truro this week must travel to Ivybridge, a tricky fixture as Ivybridge proved in victory over Filton earlier in the year. Truro will be favourites but must be on their game.
Bottom of the table Henley make the trip to Bicton knowing that victory could lift them off the foot of the table if Ivybridge lose to Truro. Bicton will want to further solidify their 4th place position.
In the Northern Conference bottom of the table Gosforth host high flying second placed Oaklands. A win for Gosforth would likely see them draw back level with Moulton, who will have to do something extraordinary to become the first side to defeat Hartpury season – the league leaders are seemingly unstoppable at the moment.
With third and fourth placed Myerscough and Worcester 6th form meeting in the third game in the conference, one will likely break clear of the chasing three below in the face for third spot in the Northern Conference.
It could well be a decisive day in the AASE league.
