Schools Rugby Midweek Preview

BECOME A PATRON

As the dust settles from a simply brilliant weekend of school rugby, another busy midweek looms large on the horizon.

There are a stack of fixtures through Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with some of the biggest names in the game involved.

Tuesday

On Tuesday Champions Trophy semi finalists Oakham look to bounce back from a tough eight days that has seen them lose three games on the bounce as they take on The Perse.

Over in Essex Felsted welcome Haileybury for what should be a well contested game, while Mill Hill welcome Harrow College in North London.

Wednesday

Wednesday takes in a few catch up NatWest Cup fixtures, including Monmouth v Backwell. The Welsh side have been in fine from this year, as shown by their defeat of Bromsgrove on Saturday, and they could be a real threat in the competition this year.

Also taking place in the Cup is Desborough v Aylesbury, which ought to be a decent game, as well as St Peter’s Glocuester v Crypt Grammar School, and Hymers College v John Leggott College, with Hymers looking in fine form to challenge at the latter stages of this competition.

Outside of the Cup Manchester Grammar face AKS Arnold, Reigate Grammar School v City of London Freemens and Christ’s Hospital v Tiffin, as well as the big highlight fixture of the day, Harrow v St Benedict’s.

Thursday

Thursday sees some awesome fixtures, including the annual classic between Wellington College and Cranleigh. Having coming off the back of that brilliant victory over Epsom College at the weekend Wellington will be full of confidence.

Another classic sees local rivals Radley College and St Edward’s Oxford meet for a huge game that ought to be very well matched, while Stowe welcome Marlborough College to town for another game that will be eagerly anticipated, particularly after a good win for Marlborough over Cheltenham College on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Bedford travel to Culford in what looks like a tricky tie for the hosts as Sherborne travel for an equally tough fixture for Sexey’s, and Prior Park host King’s Bruton.

On Friday Yarm travel to Newcastle Schools for Boys as KES Bath make the short trip to Beechen Cliff.

The excellent Trinity host Langley Park and Merchant Taylors play host to Shiplake College, while Reed’s welcome Wimbledon College.

All in all, an excellent midweek of schools rugby awaits!
