AASE Preview & Predictions – Top of the table clashes dominate

BECOME A PATRON

The penultimate round, for most, of the AASE league takes place on Wednesday, with top of the table clashes in both the Northern and Southern Conferences.

In the North the league leaders Hartpury travel to Oaklands, but such is their current advantage that they can actually afford to lose this one and still retain their place at the top, though given their imperious form this season it will take something special for Oaklands to end the unbeaten Hartpury run.

Things are much tighter in the South, where a bonus point win for Truro College would see them leapfrog their opponents, league leaders St Paul’s Catholic College. With Truro having a game in hand after their game against Ivybridge postponed last week, that might just prove enough to secure top spot in the south. However defeat could see them drop out of the top two if Filton beat Bicton, and with Filton the next opponents for Truro, that could lead to a very interesting round 10 fixture.

Should Bicton beat Filton with a bonus point, there is an outside chance that they could end up snatching third place in the south come the close of round ten, however their focus will likely be on just making sure that they secure fourth place.

At the foot of the table Henley College welcome Ivybridge to town, with the considerable carrot of being able to lift themselves off the foot of the table, after a draw last week they might fancy themselves to be in a bit of form. Ivybridge have a game in hand though because of that postponement v Truro last week and will be confident of victory given their superior form this season.

Back up in the Northern Conference Myerscough are looking for their second win in a row as their travel to Moulton, who two weeks ago picked up their second win of the season against Gosforth Academy.

Gosforth travel to Worcester 6th form College, and having run Oaklands extremely close last week, the North-Eastern side will be full of confidence that they can mount a serious challenge for a second victory of the season.

It promises to be an exciting day of AASE action, but all eyes look likely to be on those two top of the table clashes.
