It has been a huge couple of days of school rugby, and nowhere less than in the NatWest Cup.
“Back to back to back†Champions Dulwich College beat Chislehurst & Sidcup 26-7 setting up a last 16 tie between them and Trinity, who beat Berkhamsted 27-12, with the winner reaching the quarter finals, which is when the competition goes national. On Tuesday Bromsgrove sealed their last 16 place with a 50-13 win over Bloxham, they will play either The Leys or the unbeaten Stamford.
Over the road in Midlands B Oundle beat Gresham’s 22-18 in a surprisingly tense encounter, which means that Oundle will play King’s Worcester in the last sixteen after they beat the 2013 finalists Northampton School for Boys 11-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the North there has been just one confirmed result as Hymers beat Pocklington 11-7 to set up a last 16 tie against Worksop or Lymm High.
The final result in the NatWest Cup saw the St Joseph’s Festival finalists St Joseph’s College beat Dartford Grammar School 37-11, they will meet either St Benedict’s or Whitgift in the last sixteen, which promises to be one of the biggest games of the round.
The NatWest Vase has also seen plenty of action, with St George’s Weybridge, Churcher’s, Christ’s Hospital, and Cheadle Hulme picking up victories on Wednesday, Langley beating Prior Park 50-0 on Tuesday, and Hurstpierpoint securing an excellent 38-10 away win over London Oratory on Monday.
Outside of the cup there has also been plenty of action. Kingswood added to their unbeaten season with yet another spectacular victory, a 41-5 win over Prior Park. Pate’s Grammar School were equally impressive, beating Chosen Hill 47-14, while Sir Thomas Rich’s saw off Beechen Cliff 35-10, while Eltham secured a superb 31-3 win over St Olave’s Grammar School.
There is still plenty to come too, with QEH v Bristol on Thursday and Cheltenham College v St Ignatius and Rugby v Grammar School at Leeds or Friday, which is when the next round of U18 Academy Premiership games begins too.
