Rugby World Magazine All Star Team of the Term Announced

The last issue of the Rugby World Magazine revealed their ‘All Star’ Team of the Term, and what a group of players it included.

Unsurprisingly the team includes most of the top teams in the country from the Term just passed, including Daily Mail Trophy Champions Wellington College, second placed Sedbergh, Champions Trophy and St Joseph’s Festival winners Millfield, our readers’ team of the term, Monmouth, and the unbeaten Stamford and Kirkham Grammar School among others.

It would be a tremendously exciting side to see in action, such is the quality of players included. Packing down at number 8 is Wellington College captain and goalkicker, Will Wilson. Either side of him are Stamford’s George Cox at openside and Monmouth’s Callum Sanders on the blindside.

In the second row Sedbergh’s England age group international Alex Moon packs down alongside Hymers College’s Charlie Ward, while in the front row it is an all London trio.

England U18 prop Mofe Wilkey of Trinity School, Croydon, is at loosehead, with Dulwich College’s NatWest Cup winning hooker Omar Nasir at hooker, and Hampton’s Sam Curran at tighthead.

In the backline Rugby World cross the border to Wales to select Harry Randall of Llandovery College, who enjoyed a convincing win over Sedbergh at the end of term, at scrum half.

The outstanding Kirkham Grammar School 1st Xv earn a deserved selection at outside half in Connor Wilkinson, before we cross the border again, this time to Scotland and Merchiston Castle, with Louie Tang selected on the left wing.

Fraser Atkinson of Reed’s, who only lost once all term, earns the nod at inside centre, and is partnered by Grammar School at Leeds’ Tom Gorman, who scored that superb solo try for his school in their Champions trophy final defeat to Millfield at Allianz Park. Canford’s Otto Grey gets the nod on the right wing, a fitting reward for a good season for both the player and the school.

The full back slot, possibly one of the most saturated in schools rugby at the moment in terms of talent, is rightly given to Millfield’s Darren Atkins, surely one of the very best players in the country – so highly rated by Bath that he has been starting consistently for their A team in their run to the A league semi finals over Christmas.

Congratulations to all, each player and school has had a fine season, and it would be no surprise to see many of these names feature again at the end of the season when Fifteen Rugby selects our All Star Team of the Term!
