The first weekend of school rugby of 2015 certainly lived up to expectations, with some excellent scores and results coming through.
A few games fell foul to the weather, but by and large the weather was kind enough around the country for the biggest games to go ahead.
Prediction Competition
Â
Our five prediction competition fixtures certainly lived up to expectations. Kirkham Grammar School, outstanding last term, showed that the Christmas break had not dampened their skills as they won 12-0 at King’s Macclesfield.
Millfield, another side who excelled last term, began well this term too, beating Sir Thomas Rich’s 21-14 despite having several players missing through U18 Premiership commitments or injury.
The surprise of the weekend was perhaps Skinners’ 13-8 away win over Brighton College, though given their form at times last term, this was always going to be a tight game.
Woodhouse Grove were at their best, beating Mount St Mary’s 24-0, while a young Warwick side got back to winning ways with a very good 32-17 victory over Old Swinford Hosptial.
Around the grounds
Â
Elsewhere there were a few surprises, John Fisher fell to a 9-5 defeat against Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar, an excellent result for the Grammar School, while Dartford Grammar School secured a 22-11 victory at Campion.
RGS High Wycombe did their job well, beating Judd 17-0, while the biggest scoreline of the weekend was a 53-0 win for Loughborough Grammar School over Birkdale.
Meanwhile on Friday Whitgift beat Caterham 44-13 to start their term off in perfect fashion.
