The 2015 Christ College Brecon Invitation 7s takes place on Sunday, with some of the top schools in the country being drawn to the event.
This year is the competition’s 25th anniversary, and having been cancelled last year due to poor weather, King’s Worcester are the reigning champions having beaten Llandovery College in the 2013 final.
The hosts, Christ College, are in Group A, where Warwick will likely be the most formidable side. Blundell’s, Bristol Grammar School, and Old Swinford Hospital will all provide a sturdy challenge too though.
2013 champions King’s Worcester are drawn in Group B alongside the team they beat in that final, Llandovery College. Llandovery will again be dangerous, as might Kirkham Grammar School who are coming off the back of an unbeaten fifteen-a-side season. Ellesmere College and Bro Mogannwg complete the group.
Group C sees last year’s dominant 7s side, Millfield. The South West side won every competition they entered last year and will be putting pressure on themselves to top this group, so far this season they have picked up the Cup in their own tournament, but ended up with an early exit at the South Coast 7s, though did later recover to pick up one of the minor trophies.. Cheltenham College and Hereford Cathedral School will hope to stop them, as will the two Welsh sides in the group, Rydal Penrhos and Glantaf.
Group D sees a Welsh presence in Monmouth School, one of the most successful fifteen-a-side teams this year and a side who could be a threat in the shortner format too. They will face tough competition from Bryanston, Campion, Malvern, and fellow a NatWest Cup success story, Sherborne.
