2015 Ampleforth College 7s draw revealed

The draw for the Ampleforth College 7s has been made, with fifteen schools from the North region all meeting at the Yorkshire school.

The tournament takes place on the 11th February and is the first of five tournaments in the North of England ‘Super 7s Series’.

There will be sixteen teams in all, with Woodhouse Grove supplying both a 1st and 2nd string, split into four groups with the top two teams qualifying for the Cup quarter finals and the bottom two entering the Plate quarter finals.

The ever strong Sedbergh, Rosslyn Park champions in 2013, are in Group D alongside Durham, QEGS Wakefield, and RGS Newcastle, in what is sure to be a tough start to the sevens campaign.

Sedbergh’s opponents in that 2013 Rosslyn Park final were Woodhouse Grove, and they beat Sedbergh last year for the Rosslyn Park Plate. Woodhouse Grove’s 1st VII are in Group B alongside St Peter’s York, Giggleswick, and Hymers College, who could be a real threat this year.

Woodhouse Grove’s 2nd VII are in Group C where Kirkham Grammar School will surely be the favourites, though schools rugby legends Barnard Castle and Bradford Grammar School might have something to say about that.

The hosts, Ampleforth College, are in Group A, in what looks the easier of the groups, with Ashville College, Bede Academy and Yarm School their opponent.

With tournaments at Durham, the North of England 7s, Mount St Mary’s, and Hymers College to come, this will be an important first step in the 2015 Super 7s Series.
