Sedbergh got their 7s season off to the perfect start, winning the Ampleforth College 7s, the first of this years North of England Schools Super 7s Series.

They famous Cumbrian outfit saw off the outstanding Kirkham Grammar School 33-17 in the final, a revenge of sorts for their defeat in the fifteen-a-side version of the game earlier in the season.

It was the semi finals where Sedbergh really laid down the hammer, putting 45 points past St Peter’s York, who had put 36-0 past Ashville College in the quarter finals, though Sedbergh 36-12 victory at that stage over Barnard Castle was a pretty impressive effort too.

Kirkham’s route to the final saw them meet Woodhouse Grove, who beat Sedbergh in last year’s HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s Plate final. Woodhouse Grove almost recreated that meeting, but Kirkham managed a 22-19 victory to follow up their 31-12 quarter final win.

Over in the plate RGS Newcastle met their get local rivals, Durham, whom they beat to lift the title, 26-19.

RGS had beaten an excellent Hymers College side 22-12 in the semis, while a 42-5 victory over Woodhouse Grove 2^nd VII saw them reach the semi final stage.

With four more Super 7s Series tournaments to come, this was a great start for Sedbergh, not to mention a great way to begin progress towards the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s.
