Scotland U18 name squad ahead of England clash

Scotland U18 have named a 26 man squad for their final training camp ahead of their match against England U18 on Sunday 8th March.

The squad includes seven players based outside of Scotland, in England. In the backline Henley College’s Connor Eastgate is included, as well as Stowe School’s Gregor Haldane, who represented Northampton Saints in the U18 Premiership final on Monday.

In the pack Sedbergh’s Jack Solman will be a familiar name to many on the English schools circuit, he is joined by Moulton College’s George Thornton, Hartpury College’s Alex Craig, Newcastle Falcons’ Harry Borthwick, and Michael Dewar from Abingdon School in Oxfordshire.

The match serves as a warm up to the FIRA/AER European Championships, for which Scotland will play one further warm up game, against Ireland Schools on Saturday 21st March, and 11.00 kick off at Mayfield, Dundee, ahead of the full international later that day.

Speaking ahead of the training camp, Head Coach Eddie Pollock said:

“This camp will provide us with a clearer picture of the squad that will head down to Newcastle, to compete against England, in the last game before we select our team for the Rugby Europe Championships.

“The tournament is ultimately what we have in our sights and the game against the England could be the defining factor for some of these players, and their chance of selection.”
