Millfield picked up their second tournament victory of the season this weekend, winning the Christ College Brecon Invitational 7s.
The Somerset side defeated a talented Kirkham Grammar School VII 24-0 in the final to lift the trophy, having previously beaten Hereford Cathedral School and Campion in their semi final and quarter final respectively.
Kirkham meanwhile had beaten Blundell’s, who had been the other finalists at Millfield’s previous tournament victory, and then had an impressive22-5 win over Llandovery College in the semi final – whom Kirkham had in fact lost to during the group stage.
Millfield by contrast were undefeated, having beaten their semi finals opponents, Hereford Cathedral School, in the group stage, as well as Cheltenham College, who went on to lift the plate with a strong 28-5 victory over Ellesmere College, who had finished behind Llandovery and Kirkham in their group – showing the relative strength of these two groups of the four.
A solid tournament all round then, and one that Millfield will hope will act as a springboard for further success as the countdown to Rosslyn Park really beings to motor.
