John Fisher yesterday won the Hampton 7s, beating hosts Hampton School 15-14 in a thrilling final.
Fisher had topped their pool on try count, just edging out Brighton College, who had won the competition last year with an excellent display in the final against Whitgift.
Hampton meanwhile had been the dominant side in their pool, winning all four games, whilst everyone else took points off each other. Surprisingly Whitgift, ever a top 7s presence, ended up with just win to their name.
That put the hosts into the final against John Fisher, who last year had reached the HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s final, and then won a replay of that game against Millfield at Twickenham during the London 7s.
That experience must have helped Fisher as they secured a 15-14 victory for their first title of 2015.
In the Plate, St Paul’s, who finished second in Group 1 to Hampton, faced last year’s champions Brighton College, however the reigning champions had too much for them and picked up the Plate with a 12-0 victory.
