Millfield collected their third 7s title of the season on Sunday at the Marches 7s, as they continue in the dominant fashion that was them take a clean sweep of trophies in 2014.
Having already collected their own Millfield 7s trophy and the Christ College Invitational 7s trophy, Millfield added the Marches 7s haul to their collection, and did so in style.
The South West side defeated Worth in the final by a highly impressive 35-0 scoreline, having had probably the most difficult possible knockout route to the final, as they faced both the legendary Welsh side Llandovery College, and the dominant force in the AASE league, Hartpury College.
Millfield overcame those hurdles magnificently though, defeating Llandovery College 26-7 in the quarter final having utterly dominated Group B, and then following that up in a 29-14 victory over Group F winners Hartpury College in the semi final. Given that Hartpury had taken top spot in their pool over the ever impressive Monmouth, that semi final result was all the more impressive.
Milfield opponents in the final were Worth, who had topped Pool C before going on to a 19-10 quarter final victory over Hereford Cathedral School, and an impressive 26-5 victory over Group E table toppers Cheltenham College in the semi final.
The final and Millfield were a step too far for Worth though, and Millfield showed their undoubted class to win 35-0.
Blundell’s, who finished behind Cheltenham in Group E, won the Plate with a 17-7 victory over Barnard Castle in the final, while Old Swinford Hospital, who were in Worth’s group, picked up the Bowl, beating Malvern College 14-5 in the final.
The day belonged to Millfield though, and they look set for a long and exciting battle for 7s dominance this season with Wellington College and Sedbergh, both of whom are also collecting trophies by the handful.
