The Austin Friars 7s takes place on Wednesday, with Giggleswick looking to retain their title.
Giggleswick have won the last two editions of this competition, beating the hosts, Austin Friars, 33-7 in last year’s final and beating Ripon Grammar 28-7 back in 2013.
This year it looks like Giggleswick will be favourites to retain that title, a numbr of very strong schools suck as RGS Newcastle, Kirkham Grammar School, and RGS Lancaster are involved, however all three send 2nd VIIs on Wednesday.
That means the competition is likely to come fro the likes of Bolton School, Manchester Grammar, and of course the hosts, Austin Friars.
The format is that the top team in each group will progress to the Cup semi finals, with the second placed sides playing for the Plate, and the third placed sides for the Bowl.
Last year QEGS Penrith picked up the Plate, with QES Kirkby collecting the Bowl, both are drawn in the same group this year, alongside King’s Priory Tynemouth, Nelson Thomlinson, and Kirkham’s 2nd VII – who might fancy a real crack at this, they are sure to have been training at a high level, such has been the form of their 1st VII.
Giggleswick will be hoping to make it three years in a row though, and what a fine achievement that would be.
