Kirkham Grammar School claimed their second 7s title of the 2015 season at Sunday’s North of England Schools 7s.
In doing so, they overcame their nemesis this 7s season, Sedbergh, who Kirkham had met in the final of their previous two Super 7s Series tournaments only to go on to lose.
This time they met in the semi finals have both topped their respective Groups and come through the quarter finals. It looked like a case of déjà vu though as Sedbergh took a 17-5 half time lead, however a stunning comeback from Kirkham saw them score nineteen unanswered second half points to take a 24-17 victory.
That, allied to a storming 36-5 win over King’s Worcester, sent them into the final against RGS Newcastle full of confidence.
That confidence showed as they secured another 24-17 victory over the Group G winners, from whose pool the Plate winners, Bradford Grammar School, had also come.
It was a hugely significant victory for Kirkham Grammar School in that semi final, and is a result that will be noted with interest from schools across the length and breadth of the country as Rosslyn Park edges ever closer.
