The Llandovery College (Cambrian) School 7s take place tomorrow, featuring 32 teams in what looks like a highly competitive tournament.

As hosts, and with their longstanding and excellent rugby reputation, Llandovery College will be among the favourites. They are in Group A alongside Olchfa, Pembrokeshire College, and Queen Elizabeth’s High School.

There are eight groups in total, with the top two in each qualifying for the last 16 of the Cup, and the bottom two in each taking part in the Plate last 16.

Millfield are the likely favourites having already claimed three 7s titles this season, they are also the reigning champions having beaten Newport High School 47-7 in last year’s final. They also won the 2013 edition of the tournament so will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of titles.

Their Group H competition in St David’s College, Ysgol Dyffrin Taf, and Gower College’s 2^nd VII. The Somerset side also send a 2^nd VII to the tournament, they will compete in Group D alongside Cardiff & Vale College, Coleg y Cymoedd, and Radyr Comprehensive.

The 2012 Champions, Coleg Sir Gar, are in Group F alongside Nearth Port Talbot College, Glantaf, and Treorchy Comprehensive, while their 2^nd VII are in Group C with Cowbridge Comprehensive, Gwyr, and one of the few other English sides besides Millfeidl, Malvern College.

Aside from Malvern and Millfield, the only other English school is Sir Thomas Rich’s, they compete in Group G where they will be among the favourites in a group containing Bassaleg, Coleg Gwent Crosskeys, and Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera.

The tournament is also useful chance to gauge the competitiveness of many of the Welsh sides ahead of the HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s in a couple of week’s time, where a number of them are sure to be among the big contenders.
