Denstone College won their own Denstone College yesterday, setting them up nicely for the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s.
Four sides competed in what was a small but keenly contested 7s competition, with Denstone, Sedbergh, Stowe, and St Joseph’s College making up a very high class field.
The day started off with a group stage, which Denstone topped after starting the day with a 14-7 win over Stowe before backing that up with a superb 19-14 victory over the much fancied Sedbergh, before rounding things off with a 36-10 victory over St Joseph’s College.
Sedbergh’s loss meant that they finished second with victories over Stowe, 28-10, and St Joseph’s College, 28-19. Meanwhile Stowe won the battle to avoid bottom spot, beating St Joseph’s College 15-14.
That put Denstone College and Sedbergh into the final, where Denstone once again showed their ability, beating Sedbergh for a second time, this time with a 17-10 scoreline.
It was a huge day then for Denstone who will be bubbling with confidence ahead of Rosslyn Park, while Sedbergh will be hoping to recapture their trophy winning form of a few weeks ago.
