Tonbridge in good shape for Rosslyn Park after Worth 7s win

Tonbridge picked up the Worth 7s trophy on Sunday, regaining the title that they last held in 2013.

The Kent school topped a tricky Group B that also included Hampton and KCS Wimbledon ahead of the knock out stages.

That group was proven to be the toughest of all as KCS Wimbledon went on to pick up the Plate having finished third, while Hampton, who finished second in the group, were to meet Tonbridge for a second time – in the final.

The two Group B sides made their way to the final with relative ease, though Tonbridge had a mini wobble in the quarter final, only beating City of London Freemen’s 14-12, while Hampton were faced with the tricky task of facing Group C toppers and 2014 champions, Brighton College. Hampton dealt with that well though, winning 21-7.

The semi final saw Hampton face the hosts Worth, who had won Group A and beaten Bedford, but again Hampton progressed without too much bother, winning 22-7.

Meanwhile Tonbridge really hit their stride in the semi final, beating Campion 42-7 after they had impressively beaten Seaford in the previous round.

That saw these two rugby heavyweights, Tonbridge and Hampton, meet for the second time that day, but this time in the final. Tonbridge won the first game 24-12, but with more riding on the final it was always going to be closer.

So it proved, with Tonbridge winning by less than a converted try, 19-14. Tonbridge will now head to the HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s next week full of confidence.

KCS beat St John’s Leatherhead 31-7 in the Plate final, and there was also a ‘B’ tournament at the Worth 7s. Hampton showed the depth of their squad by backing up the runners up spot in the A competition with tournament victory in the B competition, their 2nd VII beating Campion 2nd VII 45-5 in the final.
