Sedbergh have won the Sedbergh Super 10s, defeating RGS High Wycombe 28-5 in the final.

The tournament was back on Sedbergh turf after a one year relocation to Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium last year, and the return to their own pitches must have inspired the home side as they stormed through the tournament unbeaten.

They topped their day one group, beating QGES Wakefield, Brighton College, and Malvern College, before beating Bristol Grammar School, and their eventual final opponents RGS High Wycombe in today’s trophy pool stage.

That set up a semi final against their big rivals in both the 7s and fifteen-a-side seasons in the North of the country this year, Kirkham Grammar School. Sedbergh remained in fine form there though, winning that 28-5 to set up the final against RGS High Wycombe.

RGS had had a very different route to the final. Finishing second in their day one group behind defending Champions Millfield, they had been placed in a Trophy Group alongside Sedbergh and Bristol Grammar School.

Losing to Sedbergh in that group put them into a semi final with their Day 1 group toppers, Millfield. They had come through top of their Day 2 Trophy Group, ahead of Kirkham Grammar School and QEGS Wakefield, and were looking like big favourites to make the final, however RGS turned their result from Day 1 around, beating the reigning champions 15-10.

Sedbergh had the edge in the final though, winning on their home turf with a 28-5 margin.

Over in the Plate Brighton College picked up the silverware, beating Barnard Castle in the final 17-7 after defeating RGS Lancaster in the semi final, having finished third in Sedbergh’s group on day one and then topping their day 2 Plate group.
