Scotland have named their U16 squad for the forthcoming BMW Wellington International Festival.

The young Scots face England North on Sunday before a game against Wales Celts on Wednesday 8^th, and finishing off with a game against England South West on Saturday 11^th.

The 26-man squad, coached by Roddy Deans, Steve Lawrie, and Davy Wilson, won 56-7 against Newcastle Falcons academy in their last warm up game.

Several English based players are included in the squad, Andrew Chrsitie of Bristol Grammar School in the pack, and Matt Davidson of Wellington School, Fraser Dingwall of Bedford School, Wellington College’s Rory McMichael, and King’s Macclesfield’s Cameron Redpath in the backline.

Redpath is the son of former Scotland captain and newly appointed Yorkshire Carnegie boss Bryan Redpath.

Speaking to the SRU website ahead of the Festival, the standoff said:

“This is the first time I’ll have played for Scotland, having played for Scottish Exiles for just under a year. I’m really looking forward to it as it’ll be a great challenge for me.”

“The games will be a lot of quicker and physical than what I’m used to, but it’s something I’m relishing. It’s a massive honour to play for Scotland as not many people get the chance to represent their country, so the fact I’ve been chosen is a big thing for me.”

“It’s a great chance for me to make my mark. I’ve got high hopes to do well and this is the first step. I’m based in the north of England so I know some of the guys I’ll be playing against which will be interesting.”

Of his father, Redpath said:

“My Dad has always really supported me and I can ask him anything, knowing he’ll give good advice as he’s been there and done it. If I make a mistake, he’ll be there to tell me how to improve and that is really helpful. He’s been a massive influence, along with everyone in my family.”

Head Coach, Roddy Deans said:

“We’ve had very good preparation with three training camps and the boys have come together well and we’re now looking forward to some competitive matches.”

“The English and Welsh teams are very well organised, but our boys will be going down there full of confidence. The way the guys have trained has been excellent as they’ve improved after every training session. These matches will give them a great grounding and it’s brilliant for them to experience international rugby at such a young age.”
