London Welsh snap up former England U20 stars

London Welsh have signed two former England U20 star back row players, Gus Jones and Will Skuse.

Jones moves from London Wasps’ Senior Academy, whom he represented whilst also studying at Oxford University, where he became a triple blue after Varsity success in 2012, ’13, and ’14. He has also had some experience on dual registration with Richmond RFC in National One.

The former Eton College pupil has represented England from U16 right through to U20, captaining them at U17 and U18 level, and was a key member of last year’s Junior World Championship victory.

Skuse moves to London Welsh fro Bath, where he was been a part of their Academy since 2009. He has made 22 first team appearances during his time at Wasps, as well as gaining further first team experience on dual registration with Nottingham and Truro.

The former Bryanston School man represented England U20 in their successful 2012 U20 Six Nations campaign and the 23-year-old has also been completing a Chemistry degree during his time at Bath, which Danny Grewcock eluded to as he announced Skuse’s departure:

“Will has been an exemplary professional for us, he’s managed to combine studying for a Chemistry degree with being a full-time player, which is no mean feat. We wish him the best of luck with London Welsh.”

London Welsh are also brining in two other back row players for their return to the Championship next year, Jersey’s Ryan Hodson and Brive’s Kieran Murphy.

London Welsh Director of Rugby Steve Lewis said: “These four signings will add athleticism and dynamism to our back row next season and will ensure real competition for places in an area where we are already very strong.”
