Young Samurai Bulldogs shine in Suffolk

The Samurai British Bulldogs picked up their second trophy of the season at Sunday’s Greene King IPA 7s at Bury St Edmunds RFC, who were recently promoted to the National League Two South Division.

Fresh from lifting the Plate at last weekend’s Sunshine 7s at East Grinstead, the Bulldogs went unbeaten in the Open competition at the Greene King IPA 7s, winning 21-19 against their perennial rivals the Apache Braves in the Final.

The Bulldogs squad included a number of schoolboys including Denstone College’s Charlie Venables and St Joseph’s College’s Ethan Waddleton, with a number of recent school leavers too, such as Epsom College’s Charlie Dockery and Bedford’s Ollie Lyons.

It was a strong day overall for schools with Culford School winning the Bowl in the Open competition, while in the Elite competition Northampton Saints lifted the Cup with a squad that included several school leavers including Rugby’s Harry Mallinder and St Joseph’s College’s Lewis Ludlum.

It was the senior Samurai and Apache sides that suffered at the hands for Northampton, they beat Samurai in the semi finals and Apache in the final.

For the junior sides though, the spoils once again went to the ever successful Samurai Bulldogs.
