Whiteley stunner for Sarries as they sign up U20 star, while Bath youngsters move on

Tries from England U20 star George Perkins and the former Millfield School flyer Tom Whiteley helped Saracens to a 38-3 win over the Army at the Honorary Artillery Company yesterday evening.

The game also saw England U20 winger Nathan Earle make his return to rugby after a long absence due to an Achilles tendon injury.

The standout moment of the game though was Whiteley’s stunning solo effort after coming on as a sub in the driving rain at the HAC.

Whiteley will be joined next year in the Senior Academy by Exeter Chiefs’ Joel Conlon, who joins Saracens this summer, linking up with Nathan Earle, Aaron Morris, Hayden Thompson-Stringer, Biyi Alo, Maro Itoje, Henry Taylor, and Nick Tompkins, all of whom were his teammates during last year’s Junior World Championship with England U20.

Commenting on his move to Saracens, Conlon said:

“‘I’m really excited to be moving to Saracens next season. They’re a club with a lot of ambition and I can’t wait to get started there.”

Saracens Academy Manager, Don Barrell, said:

“Joel is coming in to be part of our senior academy group who we expect to progress at a good rate into the senior set-up. We’re very excited to have him on board. We’re really happy to get him. He’s a hugely talented prospect and I think he has proven that in the games he’s played for Exeter. He had a fantastic Junior World Championship campaign for England last summer and we think he’s a back rower with a huge amount of potential.”

In other Academy news today Bath have announced that former Millfield back three player Rich Lane will be moving to Jersey in the Championship this summer, while former St Joseph’s College winger George Wacokecoke will also be leaving their Academy.
