Shortlist for School Team of the Year at the National Rugby Awards revealed

The six-team shortlist for the National Rugby Awards School Team of the Year was revealed in Sunday’s edition of The Rugby Paper.

Four of the shortlist, Wellington College, Monmouth, Bromsgrove, and Kirkham Grammar School will be well known to readers of www.fifteenrugby.com – their exploits this season have seen them collect trophies, accolades, and heaps of column inches.

Wellington College picked up the Daily Mail Trophy as well as every school 7s trophy available to them, including the prestigious HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s title, not to mention over half a dozen of their squad were capped as age-grade internationals.

Bromsgrove won the U18 NatWest Schools Cup, beating Dulwich College in the final, who had won the previous three titles in a row. Not only that but they defeated some prestigious opponents, such as Millfield, during the regular season.

Monmouth ran through the entire regular season unbeaten, which including beating the likes of Bromsgrove and Millfield, while Kirkham Grammar, like Monmouth, were unbeaten. Kirkham’s season included a victory over Sedbergh, who were the only team all season to beat Wellington College in any format of the game.

Less familiar to our regular readers will be Redcar Academy and Chinthurst School.

Redcar Academy are part of the All Schools programme and their U15 girls were Tees Valley champions, ending up playing at Twickenham Stadium.

Chinthurst’s Under-8 side won every match and festival that they were a part of, and won the National Schools Rugby Tournament to boot.

The National Rugby Awards take place on Wednesday 2nd September at Twickenham Stadium. Individual tickets or tickets for a table of ten can be purchased here: National Rugby Awards tickets.
