It was a cracking day of school rugby yesterday, and there are still a couple of excellent looking fixtures to come before we head into the weekend.

The big news yesterday was the return of the NatWest Cup, which saw an incredibly tough early match up between Caterham and KCS Wimbledon. KCS took the victory and progress to the next round – they looked like they will have the ability to be a real threat this season. Elsewhere there was a thriller at Staines RFC where Hampton hosted Seaford College under the lights and battled through the toughest of contests to take a 16-14 win.

One of the dark horses for this year are Reigate Grammar School, they were outstanding at Colts level this year and look to be carrying it through this year as they put St George’s Weybridge to the sword with a 32-0 victory. Could this side throw back to the legendary Reigate sides of a couple of generations ago?

Stonyhurst were also in sublime form racing away to a 54-0 win over Audenshaw, and proving once again that they are one of the top sides in the region. Princethorpe were also on form, returning to winning ways after a tough weekend with a 17-10 win over Wolverhampton Grammar, meanwhile Shiplake College won their traditional season opener against Windsor Boys 38-17.

Arguably the biggest fixture of this midweek block is on Friday night as Durham and RGS Newcastle face off for their annual fixture under the lights at Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park.
