Huge clashes set to define Champions Trophy – Round 2 Preview & Predictions

BECOME A PATRON

The second round of the Champions Trophy starts this week, with seven of the eight fixtures taking place.

After a stunning first round, the second is expected to be even better, particularly as two of the games appear to pit some of the main contenders for the title together.

Dulwich College, NatWest Cup winners in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and finalists in 2015, are hosting Millfield, who won this competition last year in a game that should be one of the biggest in this tournament’s short history.

On Thursday another set of title contenders are pitted together as they ever impressive Epsom College travel to Eton College, whose young 1st XV have been highly impressive so far this season.

The action all began on Tuesday though, with another of the tournament’s big favourites, Sedbergh, who travelled to Oxford to take on Radley College. It proved to be a simply stunning game of rugby, and you can see you report for that game here: Radley College v Sedbergh.

Haileybury, meanwhile, continued their fine start to this competition with a superb 29-12 victory away at RGS Guildford to become the second side through to the quarter finals of this competition.

Wednesday is the busiest day of the round, with three other fixtures accompanying the Dulwich v Millfield game.

There is a huge game in the North as Barnard Castle host King’s Macclesfield in what should be a very well fought contest. Blundell’s, fresh off the back of a big win at the weekend, host Monmouth. With Monmouth being on of the top sides in the NatWest Cup last year, their progress in the Champions Trophy will be very interesting to follow.

Also on Wednesday is Sherborne v St John’s Leatherhead. Both sides were part of truly outstanding first round ties so this game is expected to be another superb encounter between to side who have the capability of going a long way.

The final game of the round takes place a week on Tuesday as Cheltenham College host Bedford to their picturesque 1st XV pitch.

If this tournament has taught us anything in its short time, it is to expect a few epic tales to have been made by the end of the week.
