Fifteen Rugby Team of the Month – September

Sherborne have won the Fifteen Rugby School Team of the Month award for September.

With almost 1000 votes cast in under two days, Sherborne claimed 28% of the vote ahead of Sedbergh, who came in second with 15% ahead of Barnard Castle and Reigate Grammar with 14% and 13% respectively.

It is not hard to see why Sherborne were the popular choice, September was a hugely impressive month for the school. They won five out of five matches, a great start, particularly given that they are on a very competitive circuit.

They have also made great strides in the Champions Trophy, reaching the quarter finals after beating Marlborough College and St John’s Leatherhead.

We were lucky enough to catch them in action against Marlborough College live (you can see our report here – Sherborne v Marlborough), they won it 27-24 and it actually featured a stunning Marlborough comeback as perhaps its central narrative.

However what it also highlighted is just how talented and dangerous the Sherborne backline is. They have the look of a back division that can and will go from anywhere, but they also have the size to crash it up hard, should it be needed. It is a potent and talented mix.

The victory over St John’s was more straightforward, perhaps, and was highly impressive given St John’s form and the fact that they were through after beating a strong Tonbridge side.

Other wins have come against Cheltenham College, Radley College, who have Sedbergh that fright last week, and Monmouth, one of the top sides on the circuit last year.

Sedbergh also deserve a mention, they have shown this month that they are, at the very least, in the top three or four school teams in the country. Their residency at the top end of the Daily Mail Trophy table backs that up.

Hats off to Sherborne though, who have had a superb month and are deservedly voted as the September Team of the Month.
