Champions Trophy Quarter Final Draw

The Champions Trophy quarter final draw was made today, and once again the holders, Millfield, look like they are in the headline game.

Having drawn NatWest Cup legends Dulwich College in the last game, they have drawn Sedbergh in the quarter finals.

The two sides are right up there as the favourites for the competition, and the two sides are big rivals, their final game of the season is always against each other and is always a clash between two of the best in the country.

Millfield will be at home, which should give them a slight advantage, but Sedbergh’s attacking game is dangerous and they will not be phased by a long away trip. They travel to the likes of Whitgift, Coventry (to play Wellington College), and indeed Millfield on their regular circuit, and scored over fifty points v Radley in the last round.

Another side facing a big away trip are Barnard Castle, who will practically travel from one end of the country to the other to face Blundell’s. Both sides were highly impressive in the last round, beating King’s Macclesfield and Monmouth, and this definitely has a feel of a clash of the dark horses.

One side who are not dark horses but a part of the trio of title favourites is Epsom College. Their brilliant performance against Eton in the last round was real evidence of that.

They face an away trip to a very much in form Haileybury side though, and Haileybury will go into the game fancying their chances. Having come through so far in relative comfort, why should they not do so.

The final quarter final sees Bedford host Sherborne. Bedford had been set to face Cheltenham College on Tuesday in their second round clash, however a massive injury crisis at Cheltenham has forced them to withdraw, giving Bedford passage into the quarter finals.

It should be a monumental game of rugby, Bedford are a top side and Sherborne have thoroughly impressed all season.

They were voted as our September Team of the Month, and their Champions Trophy performances over Marlborough College and St John’s Leatherhead were a big part of that.

We are set for four fantastic games of rugby next week!
