Schools Rugby Midweek Preview & Predictions

After the drama and the thrills of the St Joseph’s Festival and the other superb schools rugby fixtures this weekend, not to mention some astonishing World Cup action, the week ahead looks likely to be a little more sedate.

With half term now upon us, there is not too much midweek rugby, although that said, what rugby there is should be hugely entertaining.

On Tuesday Canford, beaten by Blundell’s, face Beechen Cliff, who with an AASE programme in operation now are a very tough school to beat indeed. Also taking place is Wisbech Grammar v St Ivo.

Wednesday sees three NatWest Cup game take place. Judd travel as favourites to Folkestone Academy, and St Edmund’s College v Enfield Grammar also takes place. Wednesday also sees the champions Bromsgrove, in NatWest Cup action as they travel to KES Aston, a tricky tie for such an early round of the tournament, but one that Bromsgrove should win.

Gordon’s, fresh from a tough weekend at the St Joseph’s Festival, host Gunnersbury, and in the NatWest Vase Crypt travel to Marling.

Thursday has just three fixtures but they should be three glorious fixtures. St Peter’s Gloucester, who had some tremendous results at St Jo’s, host Cirencester in the NatWest Cup, and Skinners’ host Hurstpierpoint, in what should be an excellent game.

The highlight of the day should be Sherborne v Bryanston though, two excellent sides and both feeders to the Bath Academy, their games are always tight and this ought to be a superb spectacle. One to travel to if you can.

The week is rounded off in glorious style with the Modus Cup on Friday night between King’s Worcester and RGS Worcester. Played at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium, this is always a huge game of rugby and is fiercely competitive. It has an atmosphere akin to a University Varsity match – absolutely brilliant. We cannot wait.
