The second round of fixtures following the AASE league’s top/bottom split take place today, and could decide the identity of one of the finalists.
Should Myerscough College beat Hartpury College today, they will reach the AASE final after they beat Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College last week.
In doing so they would become the first side to prevent Hartpury College ever from reaching the AASE final, which they have won every time. Their task is made even harder as they must travel to fortress Hartpury to achieve their goal.
In the South pool the drama remains on hold for another week, Bicton College sit top of the table after beating Filton College last week and have a bye week this week.
That means that in order to stay in contention for a place in the final Filton must beat St Paul’s Catholic College today, and then hope that they in turn beat Bicton next week, at which point try count and points difference will come into it.
If St Paul’s win today though, which they will be favourites to do after they topped the pre-split division, then their game against Bicton College next week will effectively become a semi-final.
In the North pool second division, table toppers Worcester 6th form College meet Moulton College, who last week picked up their first win of the season, against Gosforth Academy.
Gosforth, in turn, must travel to Oaklands today, who interestingly enough have only beaten Moulton College this season, which should make this one fascinating.
In the South Beechen Cliff host Truro College. Beechen Cliff came oh so close to their first ever AASE league win last week, losing by just a point to Ivybridge, and will desperately be hoping that home advantage may just get them over the hurdle today.
The other game sees Ivybridge, who beat Beechen Cliff, travel to Henley College, who drew last week with Truro College.
