Following yesterday’s results in the AASE league we are all set for a huge week next week as the AASE finalists will be decided.
Both Hartpury College and St Paul’s Catholic College picked up the wins that they needed in order to give themselves a chance next week of reaching the final at Allianz Park.
They did so in style too, with both recording dominant bonus point wins. Hartpury beat Myerscough College 45-15, a brilliant result given that Myerscough last week beat Wyggeston, Hartpury’s closest challengers before the split. St Paul’s meanwhile beat Filton College, always a close rival in the South, 39-8.
That result means that St Paul’s game against Bicton College next week is essentially just a straight shootout for a place in the final, both have won their opening games in the South mini league, making next week’s effectively a semi final.
Hartpury face a similar task next week against Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, though it is slightly more complex for Wyggeston. Having lost their opening game Wyggeston will need a bonus point win against the reigning champions and in all likelihood will need to prevent Hartpury from getting any bonuses too. A tall order.
In the second division, Worcester 6th form College picked up a 30-27 win at Moulton College and Oaklands College won 27-15 at home against Gosforth. Those results leave Worcester 6 points clear at the top of the northern division.
In the South Henley College were in stunning form against Ivybridge Community College, winning 43-3 to go top of the table. They are level on points though with Truro College, who beat Beechen Cliff 28-7.
