Bicton College will play in their first ever AASE final after they beat St Paul’s Catholic College in their final group game.
The two sides went in knowing that whoever won would end up in the final, which takes place at Saracens’ Allianz Park on Wednesday 25th November, with a 17.00 kick off.
The resultant battle was a exactly that, a battle. It was a tense and close fought affair that saw both sides lead at various stages, but it was to be the home side, Bicton College, who secured the victory.
Their prize is a tricky one though, a final against Hartpury College. Hartpury have won every single AASE league since its inception, and do not look like a side who are ready to end that. Unfortunately their final game before the final was a bit of a damp squib as they were awarded a home walkover against Wyggestion & Queen Elizabeth I College. A rather disappointing way to reach the final, but if they win it again, they won’t care a jot.
It ought to be a superb day on Wednesday!
In the second divisions, Worcester 6th form College secured an excellent top spot in Division 2 North as they beat Gosforth Academy 47-7, consigning Gosforth to bottom spot.
Moulton College finished up in second after they beat Oaklands College 19-13 for their second victory from their three games since the league split.
In the south Beechen Cliff were denied the chance to secure their first victory of the season as Henley College secured a 38-0 bonus point win, that sees them finish top of the Division 2 South table.
They pip Truro College by just a point as Truro had to really work for a 15-6 victory away at Ivybridge Community College.
Once again, the AASE league has certainly lived up to expectations. The question now is, can Bicton College upset the history books and defeat Hartpury College in the final?
