Schools Rugby Weekend Roundup

For many this was the penultimate weekend of their schools rugby season, and it was a weekend full of some exceptional performances.

There were some huge games between a number of top sides too, with plenty of teams looking to secure positions in the Daily Mail Trophy table.

5 Key Fixtures

Our five key fixtures this weekend began with Bedford’s trip to a could Abingdon side, and with the question of whether Bedford could keep their elvel up after the high of winning the Champions Trophy on Wednesday. Well, they answered that question emphatically, winning by a stunning 49-13 margin.

St Joseph’s Festival Champions, Hampton, enjoyed a very solid 14-0 win over John Fisher, and Kirkham Grammar School kept themselves in the Daily Mail Trophy hunt with a good 12-0 win against a very competitive Woodhouse Grove side.

Tonbridge kept up their brilliant run of recent form as they put in a good display to beat Dulwich College, with their forward pack in outstanding form.

Millfield showed that they are back to their best as they beat Whitgift 29-16, a promising result ahead of a huge game against Sedbergh on Wednesday.

Our other 5 featured games were no less high quality. Clifton College put in yet another brilliant performance to beat Sherborne 26-12, while St Peter’s York enjoyed a superb victory away at Durham, winning 32-12.

RGS Newcastle showed that their result against Durham on Wednesday was no one off as they put in another good performance to beat a very good Bradford Grammar School side 18-7.

St Paul’s got back on track after a tough couple of weeks in quite brilliant fashion, beating a very good Eton College side 31-17.

Oakham won the Rutland derby, beating their near neighbours and close rival Uppingham by a commanding 29-3 scoreline.

Around the Grounds

Elsewhere there was plenty of entertainment too, Dauntsey’s made it three years unbeaten at home as they beat Lord Wandsworth College 15-0, a fine achievement.

Berkhamsted were once again in top form as they secured a 20-0 win over Rugby, Blundell’s were in good form too, winning 43-12 against Taunton.

One of the top results of the weekend saw Eastoburne College raise their game for their derby fixture against Brighton College, winning 12-3, a highly impressive win.

Harrow put in a good display as they beat Radley 43-5, and it was a good weekend for a number of King’s Macclesfield sides, their 1st XV were in top form against Stonyhurst College with a 12-0 win.

Oundle were once again in fine form, beating Haielybury 36-3, and it was a great performance from RGS High Wycombe to beat St Benedict’s 35-5. Solihull were also in fine form, they beat Trent College 41-0.
