AASE Play Offs: A stunning day for the South

The AASE league is finished for another year following Wednesday’s play off games.

The title had already been decided a week ago at Allianz Park as Hartpury College beat Bicton College 39-12 in the final to lift their 7th title, but there was still plenty to be decided this week. You can see our report from the final here: Hartpury v Bicton.

With the games split between Maidenhead RFC’s 3G pitch and Filton College’s 4G surface, the places from 3rd to fourteenth in the league were decided in a series of play offs. Second in the Southern Division played second the north, third played third, and so on.

The day was a triumph for the South, they may have lost the main even last week, but this week they did not lose a single one of the play off games between them. Only a draw for Henley College against Worcester 6th form College prevented a clean sweep on the day, and it actually placed Worcester 6th form College ahead of Henley in the final standings due to their superior record this season.

That was the 7th place play off. Further up in the 3rd place play off, St Paul’s Catholic College put in a superb performance to win 42-12 against Myerscough College to secure third.

Filton College were even more impressive, securing 5th with a stunning 57-0 over Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College.

Truro College were almost as impressive in the 9th place play off against Moulton College, winning by a hugely impressive 56 points to seven.

Ivybridge Community College claimed 11th place after they beat Oaklands College 17-10. Perhaps the biggest cheer of the day must have been reserved for Beechen Cliff though, who recorded their first AASE win of the season, and what a time to do it, making sure that they did not finish bottom, but finished in 13th as they beat Gosforth Academy 34-31.
