Weekend Schools Rugby Results: The final Saturday of the term

BECOME A PATRON

The final weekend of the term meant a slightly reduced fixture list, but that did not mean any lessening of the quality whatsoever.

Unfortunately many games had to be cancelled due to waterlogged pitches, however those that could go ahead more than made up for that.

5 Key Fixtures

Bradford Grammar School v Ampleforth College had to be abandoned mid-game unfortunately as the rain came down and made the pitch unplayable whilst Bradford were 12-0 up.

Berkhamsted put in yet another superb performance as they beat Haileybury 33-0 to complete what has been a stunning season, they have lost only once and have been truly outstanding.

Hampton fell to a surprise defeat to Bishop Wordsworth’s, 17-19, but perhaps it should not be such a surprise, the visitors have been in flying form this season.

Bromsgrove completed a brilliant unbeaten season as they beat Warwick for the second time this season. It was a far close affair than the 50 point thrashing in September though, with Bormsgrove winning 14-11 on this occasion. If both sides keep up their current work, we could well be seeing them meet again in the Cup.

Arguably the performance of the weekend though came from Wellington College, who wrapped up their second Daily Mail Trophy title in succession as they secured the bonus point victory they needed with a stunning 44-0 win over Marlborough College. When this Wellington College side clicks, they really are a an irresistible force.

Around the Grounds

Whitgift finished off their term with a storming 62-0 win over Glyn, while St Benedict’s played well for a 19-7 win over Tiffin.

One of the games of the day saw St Paul’s beat Felsted 29-24 in what was described as a great advert for schoolboy rugby.

Skinners’ enjoyed a big win to round off the term, beating Sir Joseph Williamson’s 48-7, Judd too were in flying form, winning 64-19 against Maidstone Grammar. It was a similar story for Shiplake College, who beat Halliford 69-7.

Meanwhile on Friday Barnard Castle recorded an excellent 20-8 away at Rugby to cap a fantastic term.
